Is Sustainable styling a reality or just a mere myth? It's better to fight for something than live for nothing... 

Out of 100 billion galaxies in the universe, we chose our galactic home to be the Milky Way galaxy. And from, those tens of billions of solar systems we reside in “Solar System”. And 9 planets, being part of our solar system still, we flourished on the planet named “Earth”. We here depict none other than the humans and the planet I am talking about here is our very own beloved mother Earth. Yes, the Earth which has provided us with 29% of the land to survive on, but we the human's alias “The Superiors”, “The Rulers” were bored of degrading the land or rather the space provided with. The story isn’t over yet, we as humans have always crossed the boundaries. And we, indeed did the same here, what if 29% is not enough to degrade, we had 71% of the surface still remaining. Isn’t it? Did the reality check, hit you hard!! Statistics also state that every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans. There may now be around 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic pieces floating in the open ocean, weighing up to 269,000 tones. Do these stats leave you star-struck and give you a glimpse of the destruction caused to the oceans? Yes, it left me in the same state of shock. Before this year everyone was talking about it and it seemed that people were finally waking up of the hibernation state of ignoring the environmental degradation. It was actually surprising to witness that people were seeing the world in the shoes of any other conservationists and environmentalists. People were realizing the fact that the planet is undergoing severe environmental degradation and was collectively working and raising the voices for the same. And while people were actually coming up together and standing up for the environment by protesting and proposing various sustainable ideas, but at the very same time, human life was impacted by another severe problem which took a toll and left everyone devastated in the form a communicable disease caused from the virus. Now that we all know the human race is currently suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic and trying every possible way to sustain life by eliminating and avoiding the singe cause i.e. the coronavirus. And in order to do so, all 759.43 crores have a consensus that the use of face masks and sanitizers play a vital role to prevent themselves from the cause of destruction. In this vie to stop the pandemic and to return back to the normal life, aren’t we moving towards destruction or rather foot-falling the human race into a world that would be even more hazardous and contagious? Now you might wonder how fighting this pandemic situation would lead the human life to an existential crisis on the planet which has been flourishing the same for the last 4.5 billion years. The answer to it ponders at the utmost proximity of you. Yes, it is the very same thing, which has lately taken big news and is playing a vital role in acting as a warrior against this pandemic which is none other than “Face Mask”. To avoid the spread of the virus every single human is wearing face masks these days which are believed to be helping one to avoid the virus. With almost 759.43 crore people, the demand for these face mask have faced a boom and many companies have started to produce these masks in bulk quantity in order to meet the requirements.  The single-use face masks are everywhere now; one has easy access to these because of their surplus production. But with the use of these single-use face mask we are digging up another dug-hole which if we do not fill up at the earliest will severely impact the human race. Reading this you might question my conscious and would have a lot of questions; how using a face mask is impacting the world? How are we supposed to save ourselves from this pandemic if not masks? The answers to all these questions are very simple and with just a little change in your habits/lifestyle, we can avoid the upcoming destruction or rather slow down the pace with which we are moving towards it. Usage of the face mask is not the problem but the disposal is. We do wear these single-use face mask to protect us, but do we pay any attention on their disposal. No right! All we do is litter them after the usage. Conservationists have already warned that the coronavirus pandemic could spark a surge in ocean pollution. And it has lately been reported by a lot of water and oceans clean up an organization that a gult of discarded single-use face masks and gloves is washing up on the shorelines and littering the seabed. In the years leading up to the pandemic, environmentalists have warned of the threat posed to oceans and marine life by skyrocketing plastic pollution. The Mediterranean sees 570,000 tonnes of plastic flow into it annually – WWF described it as equal to dumping 33,800 plastic bottles every minute into the sea. They have been floating in the sea in such a huge number that the time is not far when there will be more masks than the jellyfish floating in the oceans. With a lifespan of 450 years, these masks are an ecological time bomb given their lasting environmental consequences for our planet. Now you might wonder that dumping these masks properly in the bins as a civilized and concerned individual would solve the problem, but let me burst that bubble, it does not actually help because you have no clue how in the future after you dump it in the bin would it be treated. Even after all these efforts then also they might land up in the landfills or oceans and as earlier I told you about the masks being made up of plastic and non-biodegradable. So the best alternative solution is to avoid the usage of single-use face mask and shift to the reusable ones. Yes, this is true a lot of firms have started to make the face masks which can be used N number of times. They can be washed like any other piece of clothes and can be reused. It has been forecasted that reusable masks can avoid the risks associated with the disposal of 66,000 tonnes of contaminated plastic waste in the household water stream. This reusable face-masks will not only make sure they are eco friendly to nature but will also enhance your fashion statement even in this pandemic too. Lately a lot of firms like Gucci, Wildcraft, Fendi, etc. have been working hard to design the masks which are not only reusable but fashionable and work as if any other fashion accessory or apparel. In this modern era, there is a dire need for a product that works as a status symbol and is sustainable at the same time. And it looks like we’re going to be wearing the face masks for a while, which is all the more reason to find the one you like. For the foreseeable future, face masks are likely to become a fashion item, rather than merely functional. The surgical masks and N95s have been in news for long but the best face masks are considered to be made up of cloth. Besides, designers have been in the fabric-mask game for a long time. A lot of celebrities have been using the face masks as a fashion accessory; Billie Eilish wore a Gucci face covering to the Grammys before the coronavirus was a pandemic in the United States. Masks are not a fashion accessory, but they do take up a fair amount of real estate on your face so it’s not surprising that people are looking for aesthetically pleasing ones. It can be used as a catalyst to enhance your fashion statement which is one of the most important stuff to express you. Somebody has rightly quoted “You can have all the things in life if you dress for it”. And it is very true, your outfits are the best way of expressing yourself which gives you all the confidence you need and speaks a lot about you even before you start the conversation. These fabric masks will make sure that you never miss on the fashion in this pandemic too and with the usage of them you take up the role of the sole warrior for the “Team Environment”. Lately, a lot of people have chosen the alternative, now it’s your time to switch from single-use face masks to reusable ones and do your bit in saving the environment. A single step of yours will ensure that our beloved mother earth flourishes life as it has been doing it for the past 4.5 billion years.
